Dr. Vyavahare’s research and teaching interests are biomaterials, site-specific therapies, and extracellular-matrix remodeling in diseased tissues and in tissue regeneration. Director of the NIH-funded COBRE South Carolina Center of Biomaterials for Tissue Regeneration (SCBioMat), Dr. Vyavahare holds 13 international and US Patents, a number of which are now licensed for product development. Dissemination of his research includes five book chapters and over 100 refereed-journal publications and conference proceedings. He has mentored nine PhD graduates and 17 MS graduates. Among Dr. Vyavahare’s awards are the McQueen Quattlebaum Award for Faculty Excellence and Clemson Alumni award for outstanding achievement in research. A Fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering, Dr. Vyavahare is an active participant in several scientific societies and conference series. He chaired the Cardiovascular Biomaterials special interest group for the Society for Biomaterials from 2009-2010, and he served on the organizing committee of the North American Vascular Biology workshop in 2011. Prior to joining Clemson, Dr. Vyavahare was a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and the University of Michigan.
